At a hastily called news conference at Club Gitmo Thursday afternoon, the West Nashville Beelzebubbas introduced Hope Hicks as the team’s new Vice President of Communications and Propaganda.
The announcement came just 24 hours after Hicks left her post as White House Communications Director for the Trump administration.
The sudden turn of events caught many political observers by surprise. According to several sources within the Bubbas’ organization, no announcement of Hicks’ hiring was originally planned for this week. However, when guests at the club’s Palenque Room saw her walking hand-in-hand with Dr. Jorgé Linardo, the team’s chairman, and began posting pictures on social media, team officials scrambled to organize a formal announcement.
Linardo himself, who rarely participates in press conferences, introduced Hicks to the media. “I’ve been in conversation with Hope ever since we met during the past season,” Linardo said. “Seeing her up close, I’ve been impressed by what she can do, and we wanted to snatch her up.
“When the White House said Hope was leaving to ‘pursue other opportunities,’” said Linardo, holding up two fingers of each hand in air quotes, “they weren’t lying. She wanted the opportunity to join a winner, and so here she is.” Then, after a pause, he added, “Lo siento, Donaldo,” and cocked his head back in silent laughter. (Lo siento is Spanish for “I’m sorry”).
Hicks fills the vacancy in the Bubbas’ organization created by the death of beloved communications chief and community organizer Chuck Barris.
“I know I have some incredibly big shoes to fill,” said the 29-year-old Hicks when it was her turn to speak. “But I couldn’t be happier to be part of the world champions of NashVegas. And the opportunity to work under Dr. Linardo, the most interesting man in the world? Priceless!”
