The AWP has learned Dave Goodrow, owner of the Village Green, has asked Commissioner Bernie Sanders to investigate whether the West Nashville Beelzebubbas were intentionally “trying to lose” their week 15 game against the East Nashville Black Dogs.

“When I looked this morning and saw the Beelzebubbas had only 32.5 points and that they had someone in their lineup on the COVID list, my first thought was they were intentionally tanking so they can get the first overall pick in the 2022 draft,” Goodrow told the AWP. “I’ve asked Commissioner Sanders to look into the situation. If he finds that the ’Bubbas were trying to lose on purpose, I’ve recommended they lose their first-round pick next year.”

The Green and Beelzebubbas entered the final weekend of the regular season with identical league-worst 5-9 records and in line to have the first two picks in next year’s draft. The two teams split their two regular-season matchups and had the season ended after week 14, the Green would have secured the first overall pick in the 2022 draft by virtue of the second tiebreaker which is total points scored. The Green had scored eight fewer points than the ’Bubbas going into the final weekend. In advance of the four NFL games to be played on Monday and Tuesday, the Villagers had 136 points and two remaining players, while West Nashville had 32.5 point and five players yet to play, including quarterback Kirk Cousins. Even with more remaining players, the ’Bubbas are unlikely to finish with a point total within eight points of the Green’s total.
