In the 23-year history of the Nashvegas Fantasy Football Association, there has never been a more competitive race for the title than in 2024. With one week to go in the regular season, only one spot in the championship playoffs has been filled — the Midtown Browns have clinched the Linardo division crown — and there is only one franchise with a losing record. The six other teams are all still in the chase for the three remaining berths in the playoffs.
It’s almost certain tiebreakers will factor into who makes the playoffs and who doesn’t. In all cases, the first tiebreaker is head-to-head record. For the division crown, the second tiebreaker is division record followed by total points scored. For the wild-card races, the second tiebreaker is total points scored.
Here’s the situation in the race for the division titles:
• Midtown Browns (9-5): The Browns have clinched the Linardo division title and at least the number two seed in the playoffs. All they need to do to secure the number one seed is defeat the Boca Chica Daddies this weekend.
• London Bakers (8-6): The Bakers can clinch the Jorge division crown with a win this weekend over their most hated rivals, the Cambridge Animals. If the Bakers lose, they open the door for either the Animals or the East Nashville Black Dogs to win the division title and put themselves in danger of missing the playoffs altogether.
• East Nashville Black Dogs (7-7): The Black Dogs had a one-game lead in the division race two weeks ago, but after back-to-back losses, they trail the Bakers by a game in the division and could miss the playoffs altogether. But the Black Dogs can clinch the division with win over the last-place Beelzebubbas this weekend and a win by the Animals over the Bakers. In that scenario, all three teams would finish with an 8-7 record and the Black Dogs would win the first tiebreaker with the Bakers and Animals — head-to-head record. The Black Dogs split with the Bakers and swept the Animals for a 3-1 record, while the Bakers and Animals would both finish with a 2-2 head-to-head record.
• Cambridge Animals (7-7): We all know the defending champion Animals elimination from the playoffs will be later, if not sooner. For the Animals to still be in the hunt for the Jorge division title or a wild-card spot just reminds us of how sadistic the Curse of the Champion can be. The Animals can clinch the Jorge division title with a win over the Bakers and a Black Dogs loss.
There are 16 different wild-card scenarios. Here’s the breakdown:
1. If the Animals beat the Bakers, the Black Dogs beat the Beelzebubbas, the Ballers beat the Green and the Daddies beat the Browns: the Black Dogs will clinch the Jorge division, and the Bakers and Animals will clinch the two wild-card berths.
